Askams CSR project comes to fruition in West Yorkshire

ASKAMS is highly committed to CSR and as part of this we funded a regeneration project in West Yorkshire, which has just celebrated the completion of the transformation of a grassed area on the Field Lane Estate, in Rastrick, into community gateway for the tenants and residents in the area.

The Field Lane Gateway project involved young people from several organisations including Calderdale College, Calderdale Council, William Henry School and Compass Bridge who worked alongside professional contractors to regenerate the area.

We’re very proud to have funded this initiative that has resulted in a community facility with growing spaces, hedgerow planting to encourage birds and wildlife, a play and social area, new pathways and benches.

But even more than this, the project provided young people from the area an opportunity to work alongside industry professionals, gaining valuable knowledge and work experience as well as giving them the chance to input ideas and offer feedback as it progressed.

We have also offered free training to Compass Bridge and are looking to provide two apprenticeship opportunities.

Mayor of Calderdale, Patricia Allen said “I can remember what was here on this site, so what you’ve done on this project is absolutely amazing. I know it’s taken you a long time, but anything that is good, anything that is worth having, is worth waiting for. You’ve finally got something amazing. I’d like to thank everyone that has contributed.”
