UKAS accreditation extended to soils

Always with our customers in mind, we’ve recently added another string to our bow by extending our UKAS accreditation to soils.

Alongside bulk materials analysis, ASKAMS is now able to identify asbestos in soils, slurry and other made up ground, which will be of benefit to any organisation looking to acquire or develop land.

The accreditation process was overseen by our new technical director, Aaron Dodd who said: “We can now offer a service only a limited number of UK labs are able to, with accreditation that helps us improve risk assessments and allows our customers to demonstrates due diligence in the event of legal action.

“ASKAMS can characterise, assess and manage asbestos in soils, aggregates and made ground under Part 2A and Planning. It will land owners and developers to comply with mounting legislation and changes to guidance and analytical procedures and methodology, including new HSG248 guidance covering asbestos in soil and The Environment Agency’s Blue Book, both out in April.
